Frequently asked questions
A few things you may want to know before reaching out.
Beginning therapy can bring practical questions as well as emotional ones. These answers offer a starting point, and you are welcome to bring anything else to a free 20 min consultation.
01Who do you work with?
+
I provide individual psychotherapy for adults, as well as couples and family psychotherapy. In-person sessions are available at my Soquel office, centrally located for the Santa Cruz area, and telehealth is available throughout California. I work with people experiencing depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, trauma, PTSD or CPTSD, shame, grief, relationship and attachment concerns, life transitions, and questions of self-worth or identity.
02What is your approach to therapy?
+
My foundation is relational, attachment-focused, and psychodynamically informed. I listen for how present struggles connect with earlier experiences, important relationships, protective patterns, and meanings that may not yet be fully conscious. I also draw from EMDR, ACT, DBT, CBT, IFS, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and regulation practices according to what is useful for the person and the moment.
03How do I know whether we might be a good fit?
+
A free 20 min consultation is a chance for you to share what brings you to therapy and ask questions about my approach. I will also listen for whether my experience and way of working match what you need. Fit is not about having an immediate sense of certainty; it is about whether there is enough comfort and curiosity to begin.
04What happens in the first session?
+
We will begin with what feels most important for me to understand about you. I may ask about current concerns, relationships, history, strengths, and what you hope might be different. You do not need to tell your whole story at once, and we can move at a pace that supports safety and trust.
05How often will we meet?
+
Weekly sessions are often the most supportive starting point for relational and depth-oriented therapy because consistency helps us build momentum and notice patterns over time. We can discuss frequency based on your needs, goals, and circumstances.
06How long does therapy take?
+
There is no single timeline. Some people seek support for a focused concern; others want longer-term work with trauma, attachment, or recurring relationship patterns. We will revisit your goals and talk openly about how the work is progressing.
07Can we work together on a short-term basis?
+
Yes. My experience providing integrated behavioral health in a primary care setting included focused, short-term therapy with adults from age 18 into their 90s and across a wide range of diagnoses and life circumstances. When brief work is the right fit, we can identify a clear focus, build useful strategies, and make meaningful use of a limited number of sessions.
08Do you offer in-person and telehealth sessions?
+
Yes. I offer in-person individual, couples, and family psychotherapy at 5905 Soquel Drive, Suite 100, in Soquel. The office is centrally located between North and South Santa Cruz County and serves people traveling from San Lorenzo Valley through Watsonville and Salinas, along with the communities in between. Secure telehealth sessions are also available to clients who are physically located in California at the time of the appointment.
09Do you offer EMDR?
+
Yes. I completed EMDR training through an EMDRIA-approved program. When EMDR is a good fit, we use it within the broader therapeutic relationship, with preparation, pacing, stabilization, and ongoing consent rather than approaching it as a stand-alone technique.
10Can you work with me after hospitalization, PHP, or IOP?
+
Potentially, yes. My experience as a group therapist in Good Samaritan Hospital’s Behavioral Health PHP and IOP programs helps me understand the transition from acute treatment back to home and community life. We will talk carefully about whether weekly outpatient psychotherapy provides the right level of support for your current needs.
11Do you provide psychedelic-assisted therapy?
+
I offer preparation and post-experience integration support for people pursuing psychedelic-assisted therapy with another qualified provider. I do not provide, prescribe, or administer psychedelic medicine.
12Do you take insurance?
+
I do not bill insurance directly. I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies, so it is helpful to contact your insurer before beginning.
13Is what I share confidential?
+
Psychotherapy is confidential, with specific legal and ethical exceptions that we will review in the informed-consent process. Electronic communication can carry privacy risks. To request a free 20 min consultation, you may contact me by email or phone, but please limit your message to your name, contact information, and request to connect rather than including sensitive clinical details.
14Can I contact you during a crisis?
+
This practice does not provide emergency or 24-hour crisis care. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In the United States, you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
